In Celebration of Women is a national campaign created to reach out to women across the country, welcoming them to Baltimore for a variety of exciting exhibitions and special events by and for women. This initiative spotlights Baltimore as a destination rich in women's art, history and myriad other contributions.
From Mary Pickersgill, who sewed the very flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the "Star-Spangled Banner" in Baltimore in 1813, to Baltimore sisters Claribel and Etta Cone, who assembled one of the most important collections of fine art in the world throughout the early 20th century, to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's appointment of Marin Alsop as the first female conductor of a major orchestra in the country, women have impacted the very fiber of Baltimore's cultural, artistic and historic landscape.
In Celebration of Women is a partnership of the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association and the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. We hope you will join with us as Baltimore celebrates the rich and varied contributions of so many outstanding women over the last three centuries—and today.
